Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Mrs. Robinson is our teacher  and Mrs. Carrick teaches us on a Friday.

Miss Ball, Mrs. Birks, Miss. Stephensen and Mrs. Wernick also work in our class.

We have to be brave and stay at school for the whole day. We eat our lunch at school and if we bring a packed lunch we need to remember a drink, and a spoon if we are having yoghurt.

We have P.E on Wednesday and Friday and we come to school in our PE kit on these days. We need our name in all our clothes including our coats and shoes.

We will learn to write our names, recognise lots of different sounds and also read short books. We will bring reading books home to share and these will come home on a Tuesday and must be retuned by the following Monday. We enjoy using the school library and will be able to bring library books home on a Friday.

We will be spending lots of time outside this year! We go to the beach and we will need waterproof clothes and wellies. We will be visiting the beach at Blyth and the lighthouse at Whitley Bay first and then we can decide as a class, where we would like to take our learning next!

Every day it will be someone’s ‘Special Day’ and on this day, the person who is chosen will get to stand at the front of the line and take the register to the office. We love our ‘Special Days’ in Reception.

We will make lots of new friends, play hard, grow lots and most importantly, have fun!

Can you subitize? Children in Reception should be able to recognise the number of items in a group without needing to pause and count them. We really enjoy using this video.

This year we are learning to recognise our phonics sounds. This song might help parents with how we say that sounds.
