Welcome to Beaconhill Primary School Nursery.
At Beaconhill we provide 15 or 30 hours of Nursery education and childcare per week and we are open 9am-3pm Monday to Friday for children who are due to start Reception in September 2023. We also provide Nursery places for those children who are due to begin Reception in 2024 in the term after they turn 3. Our sessions run 9am-12pm for those children accessing 15 hours of funding and 9am-3pm for those accessing 30 hours.
Mrs Stoddart is the Nursery teacher and, together with Mrs Birks (HLTA), Mrs Wernick, Miss Stephenson and Miss Hancill we make Nursery a happy, safe and fun learning environment for all children.
In Nursery, we learn through play with a balance of free choice and adult led experiences. Children love to learn outdoors, especially when we visit the beach. Children are each allocated a key worker who encourages children to learn new things based upon their interests and needs and keeps a close eye on individual development. Key workers will meet with parents to discuss progress throughout the year; we are available every day if parents feel that they need to speak to us.
We use an online learning journal called 'Tapestry' parents will be able to logon anytime to see some of their children's key moments throughout children's time in Nursery. We will also communicate home learning through tapestry. Children's journals will transfer with them into Reception so that Mrs Robinson, our Reception Teacher, can learn lots about them. Every 3 and 4 year old in England is entitled to 15 hours of free Nursery education or childcare. Working parents may be eligible for 30 hours of free education/childcare. This is an additional 15 hours on top of the 15 hours available to all parents of 3 and 4 year olds.

You, and any partner, must each expect to earn (on average) at least £142 per week (equal to 16 hours at the National Minimum or Living Wage).
If you, or your partner, are on maternity, paternity or adoption leave, or you're unable to work because you are disabled or have caring responsibilities, you could still be eligible.
You can't get 30 hours free childcare if either you, or your partner, each individually expect to earn £100,000 or more.

When can my child start?
You can apply for the code once your child has turned 2 and a half. Your child can start in their childcare place the term after they turn 3 years old and have received a valid 30 hours code, whichever is later. Term start dates are 1st September, 1stJanuary and 1st April; these are fixed dates for administrative purposes, school term dates will vary.
To keep your 30 hours free childcare place you need to check your details are up to date every 3 months. Should you not be eligible for 30 hours anymore it is your responsibility to inform the Nursery settings, if you fail to do so you may incur a charge to cover the setting’s fees.

Applying for Reception places happens through Northumberland county council, the portal opens within the Autumn term usually around the 1st November and can be accessed here.

To understand the way we begin to teach children the letter sounds in order to teach reading and writing visit Oxford Owl and Read with fonics where there are lots of suggestions about support your child's learning and parent guides. There are also two different alphabet songs to help you with the pronunciation of the sounds to help your child learn the sounds before they learn the name - read with fonics, jolly phonics. ...
