Reception

Welcome to Reception! Mrs. Robinson is our teacher; Miss. Ball, Mrs. Birks and Miss.Stephenson also work in our class.

We have to be brave and stay at school for the whole day. We eat our lunch at school for the first time and if we bring a packed lunch we need to remember a drink and a spoon if we are having yoghurt. We have P.E on Wednesday and Friday and we come to school in our PE kit on these days. Shoes with velcro are very helpful and we must have our name in everything, including our coat.

We will learn to write our names, recognise lots of different sounds and also read short books. We will bring these home to share on a Tuesday and they need to be returned to school on a Friday. We also bring our homework home on a Friday with a task to share at home.

We will be spending lots of time outside this year! We go to the beach every half term and will need waterproof clothes and wellies. We will be visiting the beach at Blyth and the lighthouse at Whitley Bay. We are often out on the garden and and will need our wellies on these days too.

Every day it will be someone’s ‘Special Day’ and on this day, the person who is chosen will get to stand at the front of the line and take the register to the office. We love our ‘Special Days’ in Reception. On our birthday, we are allowed to wear non- uniform too. We really enjoy counting down the days to our birthday.

We will make lots of new friends, play hard, grow lots and most importantly, have fun!

How you can support your child at home.

Can you subitize? Children in Reception should be able to recognise the number of items in a group without needing to pause and count them. We really enjoy using this video.

This year we are learning to recognise our phonics sounds. This song might help parents with how we say that sounds.
